Missouri Pacific Caboose #13936
Until the mid-1980s, cabooses were still widely in use on the rear of freight trains for local switching operations. Cabooses like MoPac #13936 provided the crews a place to stay warm and out of the elements, as well as a place to keep an eye on the train to ensure everything on the train was in order. Built in 1980, this caboose is one of the youngest members of the Museum’s vast collection of rolling stock. During its service life, MoPac #13936 ran in the Kansas City and Corpus Christi areas until it was sold to the Museum in 1993.
Charter Pricing:
$200 for the first 10 passengers. Additional passengers pay the standard per-passenger fare. The caboose’s maximum capacity is 15 people.
Robert Peary
Built in 1929, the Robert Peary was a symbol of style and elegance in the Pullman company’s fleet of for-hire party cars. Used by President Franklin D. Roosevelt, then later by movie stars, singers and other high-profile guests, the Robert Peary is an ideal car for use on any occasion. It’s Victorian-era styling and comfortable seating are best enjoyed while at the rear of our hour-long Golden State excursion service.
Charter Pricing:
$425 for up to 15 passengers. Additional passengers pay the standard per-passenger fare. The car’s maximum capacity is 20 people.
Santa Fe #1509
Santa Fe Cafe-Lounge car #1509 was a staple on the Santa Fe’s high-speed rail services from Los Angeles beginning in 1926. The car was a frequent visitor to cities like Chicago, Phoenix, and Kansas City providing meal service and a quiet place to relax for its first class passengers
In it’s later life, #1509 was used in Santa Fe’s excursion services on special trains including the famed “Farewell to Steam” excursion and other charters until its retirement in the early 1970s.
Charter Pricing:
$650 for up to 30 passengers. Additional passengers pay the standard per-passenger fare. The car’s maximum capacity is 37 people.
Reservations and Cancellations
All reservations of private railcars for parties or events are final once deposits have been received. However, we understand that unplanned emergencies arise from time to time and could interfere with your plans to ride a train with us. If you give us at least thirty (30) days advance notice, we would be happy to:
- Do a one time reschedule of your reservation for another date, subject to availability, at an equal or lower priced trip. The cost difference between the price paid and a lower priced substitution will not be refunded.
- Allow you to transfer your reservation to another group(s) to take your place.
You may bring aboard your own food and drink. A $100 deposit is required to hold your charter reservation and also serves as a cleaning deposit. This deposit may be refunded at the end of your trip if your party has kept it acceptably clean.
