Wheelchair Accessibility

Pacific Southwest Railway Museum Association Commitment to Accessibility

PSRMA is dedicated to ensuring that our facilities and services are accessible to all visitors, including those with disabilities. We are continually working to improve our accessibility features and strive to provide a welcoming and inclusive environment.

Campo Railroad Museum Accessibility

  • Concrete Sidewalks, Ramps, and Pathways: We have made significant improvements to our Campo facility by installing concrete sidewalks, ramps, and easy-access pathways to enhance accessibility.
  • Wheelchair-Accessible Trains: Most trains departing from the Campo Depot allow wheelchair users to board and disembark safely via chairlift.  While the historical nature of our railcars may limit access due to narrow doorways and aisles, our open-air baggage car is fully accessible for all and a great way to enjoy a ride through the country-side!
    • NOTE:  Only Coach class and the open-air baggage car are accessible.  Unfortunately, Business Class, First-Class, and the Robert Peary have narrow doorways and aisles that are not accommodating.  Likewise, our locomotive cabs are not accessible.  The cabs require guests to be able to climb up a ladder and traverse a narrow walkway and doorway.
  • Special Event Considerations: Please note that access to trains during special events may be limited. When purchasing tickets, kindly indicate if you require assistance so that our train crew can be prepared to accommodate your needs.
  • Static Display Accessibility: Due to the historic nature of the railroad cars on static display at Campo, we may not always be able to provide wheelchair access to these exhibits. We understand that design requirements have evolved over time, and we are working to increase accessibility to more trains as resources permit.
Accessible Restrooms: We have accessible restrooms located at the Campo Depot and the exhibit hall for your convenience.
  • Accessible Shuttle: We offer an accessible shuttle service with a wheelchair ramp to transport visitors between the Campo Depot and the exhibit hall. Please let us know if you require assistance with transportation.

La Mesa Depot Museum Accessibility

  • Static Display Accessibility: Due to the historic nature of the railroad cars on static display at the La Mesa Depot, we may not always be able to provide wheelchair access to these exhibits. We understand that design requirements have evolved over time, and we are working to increase accessibility to more trains as resources permit.
  • La Mesa Depot Accessibility: [Review] The La Mesa Depot may have areas inside the depot that may be too narrow to navigate.  However, there are several doors into the depot which should allow access to most if not all of the depot.

Questions and Assistance

If you have any questions or require assistance during your visit to either the Campo Railroad Museum, or the La Mesa Depot Museum, please do not hesitate to contact us. We are committed to providing a positive and inclusive experience for all visitors.

Additional Considerations

  • Service Animals: Service animals are always welcome at our Museums. Please ensure that your service animal is properly trained and leashed at all times.
  • Assistive Devices: We encourage visitors with disabilities to bring any necessary assistive devices, such as wheelchairs, walkers, or hearing aids.
  • Feedback and Suggestions: We value your feedback and suggestions. Please let us know if there are any areas where we can improve our accessibility efforts.

By continually striving to enhance our accessibility features, PSRMA aims to create a welcoming and inclusive environment for all visitors.
